Michelle Collins' daughter gains top A levels after fight back from serious illness and her dad's death
Former Coronation Street and EastEnders star Michelle Collins has revealed how her teenage daughter fought back from major surgery and the death of her father to gain three top grade A levels.
Proud mum Michelle, 53, who gave up acting briefly to support her sick daughter Maia, 18, said at one point she thought her only daughter was so poorly she may have to leave school for good.
Speaking after the ‘A’ Level results came out earlier this week Michelle said: “I am so proud of her.
“She is amazing. At the beginning of the school year, we were unsure if she would make it back to school at all.
“It was awful. She was in shock and felt overwhelmed. But now she has achieved this.”
Maia is now going to Bristol University to study for a degree in History after a holiday in Ibiza with her mother.
Last September, as Maia began her final A level year, she was rushed to hospital with agonising stomach pains.

Michelle Collins was all smiles as she finally married her fiancé Michael Davidson after 10 years of dating in a low-key ceremony in London last week.
The couple were joined by their closest family and friends, including Michelle's former co-star Adam Woodyatt, as they exchanged vows at midday on 8 August.
It was an emotional affair from start to finish as Michelle told us after her big day, "we all cried a lot".
Speaking exclusively to OK!, she explained, "My mum [Mary] had passed away [last year], my daughter [Maia] was away. It was an incredibly emotional day because I kind of never thought I would actually get married and Michael didn't really want to get married.
“It was very emotional because, as Michael said in his speech, we’ve lost a lot of people and there were a lot of people who couldn’t be there.”
