Alexa Conomos, co-anchor of Dallas-based TEGNA8’s early morning Daybreak program, has decided to leave both the program and the station.
Conomos officially informed staffers of her decision Wednesday morning, according to sources. She cited the oft-unforgiving work hours, other opportunities outside the TV news business and the desire to spend more “normal” time with her husband, Bradley, and their three young children. Conomos also has offered to stay with Daybreak, which airs from 4:30 to 7 a.m. weekdays, until TEGNA8 finds a replacement.
Raised in the San Francisco Bay area, Conomos was an anchor for the now defunct Texas Cable News network (TXCN) before moving across the street to become Daybreak’s early morning traffic anchor in 2002. She became the program’s co-anchor, with incumbent Ron Corning, in June 2014 after regularly filling in.
She began her television career with NBC affiliate KMIR-TV in Palm Springs, CA. Conom

As the daughter of first-generation Americans, Alexa Conomos learned at a young age that every family travels its own special journey, and, therefore, every person has a unique story to tell. Yet despite the different paths taken, one constant remains: it’s a story that begins and ends at home.
Alexa’s story began in a ranch-style house in the quiet California Bay Area town of Menlo Park (most notably now the home of Facebook!). As a little girl, she loved telling other people’s stories. So it was no surprise when she embarked upon a story-telling career that spanned 20 years and that ultimately led to Dallas Fort Worth. As WFAA-TV Channel 8’s morning news anchor, Alexa had the privilege of being welcomed into more homes to tell more stories about more fascinating people and their wonderful communities t

Alexa is best known for her role as anchor of Emmy-award winning News 8 Daybreak on WFAA-TV Channel 8. With her positive spirit and trademark cup of joe, she loved getting folks around Dallas-Fort Worth "up and at 'em" in the morning for 17 years at the legacy ABC station. She also served as a traffic reporter, noon anchor, and contributor on Good Morning Texas, WFAA’s signature lifestyle program. Prior to her tenure at WFAA, she served as anchor at Texas Cable News, where she broadcast to the entire Lone Star State.
Alexa began her career in her home state of California as an anchor/reporter at Palm Springs NBC affiliate KMIR-TV. She covered the deaths of Congressman Sonny Bono and Frank Sinatra, and reported on major environmental issues like the shrinking Salton Sea, a huge source of pollution. She had the pleasure of interviewing celebrities, but most fondly recalls sharing a hot air balloon ride with WWII female aviator veterans and riding the newest electric bicycles with auto executive Lee Iacocca.
