Paul Joseph Selva (born September 27, 1958) is a United States Air Force General who is the 10th Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In this capacity, he is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the nation's second highest-ranking military officer, and the highest-ranking officer in the Air Force.[1] He assumed his current assignment on July 31, 2015.

Paul J. Selva graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in the Class of 1980, and completed undergraduate pilot training at Reese AFB, TX. During his 32-year Air Force career he has held numerous staff positions and has commanded at the squadron, group, wing and headquarters levels.
Prior to his current assignment, as a Lieutenant General, Selva was Vice Commander, Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor- Hickam, HI.
On 29 November 2012, Selva was elevated to the four-star rank of General. In a change-of-command ceremony on 30 November 2012 at Scott AFB, IL, General Selva became Commander, Air Mobility Command, as the legacy of leading global mobility operations was passed to him from General Raymond E. Johns Jr. Air Mobility Command's mission is to provide rapid, global mobility and sustainment for America's armed forces. Paul Joseph Selva (born 27 September 1958) is a retired United States Air Forcefour-stargeneral who served as the tenth vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In this capacity, he was the nation's second-highest-ranking military officer, and the highest-ranking officer in the Air Force.[1] He assumed his last assignment on 31 July 2015, and retired on 1 August 2019.[2] Selva is a command pilot with more than 3,100 hours in the C-5, C-17A, C-141B, C-37, KC-10, KC-135A and T-37.
Early life
Selva was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on 27 September 1958.[3] Shortly thereafter his family relocated to Terceira Island in the Azores archipelago, Portugal, where his father worked at Lajes Field.[4] After attending the base high school[5] he enrolled at the United States Air Force Academy, where he graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical engineering.
