Dr. Aziz is the Otto N. Miller Professor of Earth Sciences and Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Stanford University. He served as professor of chemical and petroleum engineering at the University of Calgary where he established the Computer Modeling Group and managed it for 5 years. He has also served on the faculty of the University of Alberta and as the Chief Engineer of Karachi Gas Co. Ltd. At Stanford, Aziz served as the Associate Dean for Research (School of Earth Sciences) and Chair of the Petroleum Engineering Department. His research interests include reservoir simulation, modeling of advanced wells, multiphase flow in pipes, and natural gas engineering. He graduated from the University of Michigan (BSE), University of Alberta (BSc and MSc), and Rice U. (PhD). He has been awarded Honorary Membership in the Society of Petroleum Engineers and has published more than 150 technical papers, two books and one monograph. Khalid Aziz LVO DL (born 1953, Lahore, Pakistan) started his career as a journalist, becoming the youngest producer in the BBC at Radio Leicester. And at the age of 24, the youngest presenter of a 6 o'clock BBC TV regional news programme, Look North from Leeds. In his 12-year career with the BBC, he worked on many BBC News and Current Affairs programmes including Newsbeat and Panorama.
In 1982, he moved to TVS and became the first main anchor for the South edition of the regional news programme, Coast to Coast. Aziz later concentrated on business programming for the station, presenting and producing the award-winning series Enterprise South.
He is a visiting professor of Business Communications at the University of Southampton. Since July 2000, he has written Speaking Out, a regular monthly column for Management Today where he reviews speeches by Captains of Industry and awards them either a Foot in Mouth or Silver Tongue. Khalid Aziz (15 July 1937 – 2 July 2011) was an international cricket umpire from Pakistan. Besides umpiring in domestic fixtures, he officiated in three Test matches from 1978 to 1992 and seven ODI games from 1977 to 1993.[1]
During the West Indian tour of Pakistan in 1980–81, he protested publicly against the pressure officials put on umpires to make decisions in favour of the home team, and was sacked.[2] He was not appointed to officiate at another first-class match until 1988.[3]
He was the cousin of the Test cricketer Farooq Hamid.[4]
