Finding My Italian Family (by Kathy McCabe)
Kathy McCabe is the host and executive producer of the award winning travel series DREAM OF ITALY on PBS and Create TV. Season 2 is particularly dear to us, not just because we are one of the proud sponsors of the show, but because Kathy traveled with her parents to her Ancestral town to reconnect to her Italian roots. "I always knew I wanted to tell the story of Castelvetere sul Calore, my ancestral hometown in the Avellino province of Campania. When my mother and I first rediscovered the town 23 years ago, who could have imagined that our story would turn into an episode of my own PBS travel series Dream of Italy! Piecing together any family story is complicated and as soon as I decided I wanted to bring it to TV, I knew that I would need experts to help fill out the research I had done on my own over the years.

Kathy McCabe makes Italian travel dreams, and soon European ones too, come true. She’s America’s #1 Italy travel influencer with an audience of many millions on PBS alone. Kathy is the host of the award-winning PBS travel series Dream of Italy (inspired by the award-winning travel magazine she founded in 2002) whose new third season recently won three Telly Awards. Dreaming of Italy: The Life-Changing Stories of Kathy McCabe and Frances Mayes
Falling in love with a Tuscan villa in a serious state of disrepair transformed Frances Mayes’ life and career. Her tale of restoring Bramasole, in Cortona, is at the heart of Under the Tuscan Sun, her bestselling memoir and the film of the same name. Diane Lane played Mayes in the big screen version. She’s gone on to write eight more books about Italy, including Always Italy. Her latest novel, A Great Marriage, was recently published.
Kathy McCabe also had a dream of Italy. As founder and editor of Dream of Italy, a travel magazine she has published since 2002, she shares the discoveries and delights of a country that feels more like home than home. (When she’s not in Italy, McCabe lives in Denver.) More recently, Kathy created the television series Dream of Italy for PBS, now in its third season. She also hosts a podcast of the same name.
