Malaysian badminton players
The Sidek family is a Malaysian family with a significant history within professional badminton.[1][2] The patriarch of the family was an avid badminton fan, Sidek Abdullah Kamar (1936–2005), who himself was a former player turned senior coach.[3] He started to train his sons from an early age at their house in Banting.
As soon as his sons were spotted by Khoo Teng Yuen, a BAM coach, he transferred them to a prestigious secondary school known as Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur, where he (Khoo) was based.[4] The training ultimately culminated in regaining the Thomas Cup in 1992 after a lapse of 25 years.[5][6]
The five Sidek brothers, who were also world-class players, began their run of success in the early 1980s. Misbun testing waters in Thailand as he prepares for new coaching stint
KUALA LUMPUR: Is Thailand set to benefit from Malaysia’s loss?
Datuk Misbun Sidek, who departed from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) as junior coaching director last August, is now preparing for a new coaching stint in Thailand.
Misbun played an important role in the rise of young national shuttler Justin Hoh, who already has four International Challenge titles under his belt.
But can he recreate his magic up north?
After training three Thai junior players – Nuttanon Maku, Punnatat Prempunpong and Tonkid Saeheng – at Nusa Mahsuri’s training centre at the end of 2023, Misbun recently revealed that he is undergoing a trial coaching phase with the Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT).
The Thai national set-up has churned out top junior players in the past with current world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn claiming three consecutive World Junior Championship titles from 2017 to 2019.
Misbun said he is currently testing the waters in Thailand and is aware of the challenges that lie ahead of him

Dato Misbun Sidek which more likely to be known as Bun once become one of the legendary badminton player in Malaysia. Besides, he also been known by public as a “Giant Killer” which he could defeat the other player in his era. In addition, the years that Misbun active is in 1976 until 1989. His full name is Mohmed Misbun bin Mohamed Sidek which he is the eldest son of the famous six Sidek brothers. The story of Sidek Brother's has been adapted into comic and cartoon as that becomes the popular series of cartoon for the children in that era.
Dato Misbun Sidek was born in 17th February 1960 at Kanchong Darat, Banting, Selangor. He received an early education in primary school in Banting and then furthers his studies at Victoria Institutaion, Kuala Lumpur. His Father, Datuk Sidek, imagine that one day, his sons will become the badminton aces. His Father becomes the coach toward him and his brothers. Plus, Misbun has been teach by his father seriously by practicing at the badminton court infront of his house.
