When the 2 youngest members of rising Aussie band 'Krill' started piano lessons in Yeppoon as kids, they used their father's Masters thesis on marketing as a footstool.

Just over a decade later, twins Lee and Lea are now among the 5 Jackson siblings who have just won an online search for Australia's best unsigned band, beating 1600 others to win MTV's UncharTED competition. They have gained break-out gigs at next year's Big Day Out circuit, a SongBMG recording contract and the unusual distinction of logos on a brand of beer cans.

Meanwhile, their marketing lecturer father Associate Professor John Jackson has turned his interest in the band's music career into an academic specialty, focusing on youth and the popular music business.

2. KRILL created history in 2008 when it became the first band to tour nationally with Australia's premier music festival Big Day Out without having released either a single or an album.

The four sisters and brother capped of the five state BDO circuit, touring with Bjork, Rage Against The Machine, Silverchair and Grinspoon, by opening the main stage in Perth ahead of booming Gold Coast band Operator Please.

Since then, KRILL have released their debut single Shake It Up Ma on Sony's Red Label. The song debuted in the top 40 on the physical sales chart and Sony immediately called for a follow-up single.

Krill (band)

Krill was an American indie rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. Founded by frontman Jonah Furman, guitarist Aaron Ratoff, and drummer Luke Pyenson[1] (later replaced by Ian Becker[2]), the group released three albums.

Krill formed in 2010 in Allston, a neighborhood of Boston.[3] Krill released their debut album, Alarm No Hris, in 2012.[4] The group released its second full-length album in 2013, titled Lucky Leaves.[5][6][7] Krill was named a "Band to Watch" in 2013 by Stereogum.[8] Krill released their third and final album in 2015, titled A Distant Fist Unclenching, through Exploding in Sound and Double Double Whammy.[9][10][11]

Krill announced in September 2015 plans to play four final shows before breaking up. They played their final show on October 23, 2015, in Brooklyn.[12]
