Inkheart series
Fantasy book series by Cornelia Funke
The Inkheartseries is a succession of four fantasy novels written by German author Cornelia Funke, comprising Inkheart (2003), Inkspell (2005), Inkdeath (2007), and The Colour of Revenge (2024). The books chronicle the adventures of teen Meggie Folchart whose life changes dramatically when she realizes that she and her father, a bookbinder named Mo, have the unusual ability to bring characters from books into the real world when reading aloud. Mostly set in Northern Italy and the parallel world of the fictional Inkheart book, the central story arc concerns the magic of books, their characters and creatures, and the art of reading.
Originally released in German-speaking Europe, the third book, entitled Inkdeath, was released in an English translation by Anthea Bell in October 2008. In 2004, Funke sold the film rights to all three books to New Line Cinema; thus far, the first book has been made into a motion picture, which was released in December 2008.[1]

Cornelia Funke: 'Inkheart'
In 1979, the German children's book writer Michael Ende decided to take a journey into imagery realms in his writing: His epic book, The Neverending Story, takes place in a magical world full of adventure that appealed not only to children. Many adults also fell in love with the powerful story. And those who were fortunate enough to experience The Neverending Story during their childhood are still fans today.
But those children have long grown up and have children of their own now. And their generation has their own author who explores universes of the imagination: Cornelia Funke. There's hardly a child today who hasn't read Funke's work or has at least listened to audio books or watched film adaptations of her books.
Funke had already written a number of books in the 1990s, including the popular Wild Chicks series. But Inkheart changed everything and established her as one of the world's foremost authors of fantasy literature for young people.

Cornelia Funke
Cornelia Funke was born in 1958 in the North Rhine-Westphalia town of Dorsten. She studied social education on Hamburg and then worked as an educator at an adventure playground while studying book illustration at the local University of Design. Her dissatisfaction with the texts in many illustrated children’s books motivated her to write her own ones.
Her fantastical youth novels soon became international bestsellers with print runs in the millions and have been translated into 35 languages. Funke also celebrated her breakthrough in the USA with »Drachenreiter« (1997; Eng. Dragon Rider, 2004) und »Herr der Diebe« (2000; Eng. The Thief Lord, 2000). The latter tells the adventures of a band of thieves made up of orphans in Venice who are lured with their leader – who generally runs around wearing a beak mask – onto a mysterious island. She gained a loyal readership with her six-volume series »Die Wilden Hühner« (2001–2009; tr. The Wild Chicks) and her long »Tintenwelt« trilogy (2003, 2005, 2007; Eng. Inkheart).
