Biography

Born in Liverpool but raised in the London area, actor Raza Jaffrey was drawn toward the stage after graduating from Manchester University. After some work in the theater and guest spots on TV series such as "Picking up the Pieces" and "EastEnders," his first big role came in 2001, when he landed a co-starring spot in the musical "Mamma Mia!" on the London stage. Next Jaffrey won rave notices for his role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Bombay Dreams," which he followed up with more TV work in "Murder Investigation Team" and "Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee," and a choice role in the feature thriller "Infinite Justice." In 2005, Jaffrey began portraying Zafar Younis on the popular BBC espionage drama "MI-5," where he got the chance to work alongside his former classmate Rupert Penry-Jones and met the woman he would marry, actress Miranda Raison. Raza Jaffreyis an English actor and singer. On CBS's medical drama Code Black, he played Neal Hudson. He is well recognized for his role as Zafar Younis in BBC One's spy drama Spooks. In season 4 of the Showtime series Homeland, he played Pakistani Lieutenant Colonel Aasar Khan.

For Netflix, he is known for his role in the 2021 action thriller film, Sweet Girl, in which he plays, Vinod Shah.

Biography[]

Jaffrey was born in Liverpool, Merseyside, the son of an Agra-born Indian sea captain and a Liverpool-born English mother. He grew up in London and attended Dulwich College from 1986 to 1991.

At Manchester University, he studied English and drama, as well as performing at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. During his time at university, he performed in several plays at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, including Brian Friel's The London Vertigo, as well as Henry VIII and A Comedy of Errors at the Pendley Open Air Shakespeare Festival.
